Review of WiMINCork19 by Ellen (age 10)

My mum is amazing, full stop. She is a mother, a sister, a daughter, a wife, a GP, an activist, a teacher and she has her very own website, WiMIN! It is Women in Medicine in Ireland Network, and she held a conference for it!
I went out with my Mum early in the morning to the venue, Fota Island Resort and met her 4 volunteers, who were very nice and got to work, organising. There was free childcare there, and me and one of the volunteers started setting up the kids’ room, with stickers, colours and toys. Soon people started arriving, and all had tea and scones. I loved seeing all these people, as they were all so different and unique. When the actual conference was getting started, I got the choice of going to the kids’ room or coming in to listen to the presentations, and of course I chose the presentations. Gillian Keating was first, my dad’s cousin, she was extremely interesting, and I hung into her every word. All the other speakers were exceedingly amazing too, and I learned a lot from them, but I especially liked Gabrielle. She spoke about equality, racism and discrimination, all things very close to my heart. After her presentation, I spoke a bit about how lots of these problems could be changed if children were taught these things. The day was just amazing, and I’m sure everyone else that was there would agree with me.

So thank you so much Mum for making that day so amazing! I learned more in that day than a professional teacher could ever teach me in a year! Thanks, Ellen.
