The Dr Sarah Fitzgibbon Lecture 2025 was delivered by Professor Suzanne Crowe

At our annual conference in 2022, in acknowledgment of the dearth of lectures named for women, the inaugural Dr Sarah Fitzgibbon Lecture took place.

Since then, the Lecture has been delivered at our annual conference by esteemed medics Dr Sumi Dunne (2023) and Professor Deborah McNamara (2024).

As our next conference takes place in 2026, we were delighted that Prof McNamara and RCSI offered to host the 2025 Dr Sarah Fitzgibbon Lecture as a stand-alone event on 19th September at 19:30.

We were honoured that Professor Suzanne Crowe agreed to deliver her lecture, entitled "Failure: Cat o' Nine Tails or Cat o' Pult", she humbly described how some of the setbacks in her own career turned out to be key turning points in bringing her to where she is now. She spoke about how Plan B can sometimes actually work out much better than Plan A. She also explored how what drives us can determine our commitment to our careers, and made the point that intrinsic motivation puts a fire in your belly that is much harder to put out than any external motivation can ever create.

Huge thanks to the Irish Medical Organisation and Medical Protection Society for their support, to Christine O'Donoghue de Vries for the gorgeous scarf (we look forward to having House of Kerry with us at our next conference!) and to all of the WiMIN Board and supporters who make our network such a warm and joyful community.
