Prof. Geraldine McGinty MD., MBA, FACR did her medical training in Ireland at the University of Galway and then came to the USA for residency at the University of Pittsburgh where she was Chief Resident. Her fellowship was in Women's Imaging at the Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2000, she completed an MBA at Columbia University. She is an internationally recognized expert in imaging economics. In May 2018 she was elected as the Chair of the ACR's Board of Chancellors, the first woman to hold this office. In 2014 she joined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City and in 2021 she was appointed as Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. Since 2017 she has taught in the combined Weill Cornell Medicine and Cornell SC Johnson School of Business EMBAMS in Healthcare Leadership. She is a member of the board of 4D Medical (4DX) as well of her alma mater. From 2014-2021 she served as a Non-Executive Director of IDA Ireland, the national foreign direct investment agency. Her published work has focused on payment models for imaging, most recently a bundled payment for breast cancer screening. Recently she has focused on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on Medical Imaging. She has spoken at the Turing Institute and to the WHO Focus Group on AI in Healthcare on this topic and was an invited speaker at the Nvidia GTC AI Conference in 2020. In 2015 she was voted Radiology’s Most Effective Educator by the readers of Aunt Minnie, a radiology news site with more than 140,000 members. She holds inclusion as a foundational value and has been recognized for her work in advancing the careers of women including with the Jessica M and Natan Bibliowicz Award for Excellence in Mentoring Women Faculty. In 2019 she endowed a scholarship at her alma mater to support a female physician in pursuing an MBA.

Dr Elizabeth (Liz) McGloughlin is the co-founder of Tympany Medical, a Galway-based med-tech company transforming surgical imaging through its flagship innovation, Solascope—a variable-angle, self-cleaning endoscope designed to enhance precision in ENT procedures. Solascope is part of a broader platform aimed at improving outcomes in over 20 million annual procedures requiring endoscopic visualisation, starting with sinus surgery.

Liz graduated from UCD School of Medicine in 2013 and completed Memberships of the College of Anaesthesiology prior to founding Tympany Medical. Liz brings deep insight into the challenges faced by surgeons and patients alike. Her journey from frontline medicine to med-tech entrepreneurship began with the BioInnovate Fellowship, where she collaborated with the Mayo Clinic to identify unmet clinical needs and translate them into viable solutions. Liz holds a Master of Science in BioInnovation from NUI Galway and now serves as Vice President of Strategy, Clinical and Business Development at Tympany Medical.

Under her leadership, the company has built a strong foundation of intellectual property, multidisciplinary expertise, and a growing product pipeline, with team members spanning optical physics, biomedical engineering, and miniaturised electronics. In 2025, Liz was named a finalist for the European Prize for Women Innovators, recognising her impact on healthcare technology and her role in shaping Europe’s innovation landscape.

Beyond her professional achievements, Liz is a mother of two young daughters, and is passionate about showing that innovation and leadership in medicine can coexist with family life. She advocates for greater visibility and support for women balancing clinical careers, entrepreneurship, and motherhood—bringing authenticity and empathy to every aspect of her work.

Dr. Odharna Ní Dhomhnalláin is a Specialist Registrar in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and Lead NCHD at Galway University Hospital. She was the inaugural recipient of the McGinty Scholarship for Female Physicians and is a recent graduate of the MBA Programme at University of Galway. Dr. Ní Dhomhnalláin is a native of Ennistymon, Co. Clare, with proud roots in Rosmuc, Co. na Gaillimhe. She attended Scoil Mhuire, Ennistymon, where she was fortunate to be surrounded by formidable women, both staff and student alike. She proceeded to study Medicine at Trinity College Dublin, graduating in 2017 with both a medical degree and an Intercalated Masters in Biomedical Sciences. She was part of the inaugural cohort of Academic Interns, conferring her the opportunity to avail of protected research time during her Intern year in University Hospital Limerick. She subsequently undertook her Basic Specialist Training (BST) in Medicine in the Saolta Group, predominantly Galway University Hospital (GUH), graduating in July 2020. Following her BST, she began working as a Medical Registrar in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) in GUH, which fortuitously coincided with the advent of the McGinty Scholarship for Female Physicians at University of Galway. Established by Dr. Geraldine McGinty (herself a former Sunday WiMIN!), the scholarship serves to “encourage and enable female physicians to engage in the MBA programme, to support them on a career path to leadership in the healthcare sector”. With the encouragement of Consultant colleagues, and graciously facilitated by her fellow AMU Staff, Odharna availed of the opportunity and undertook the two-year, part-time MBA programme as the inaugural McGinty Scholar. Not only did the scholarship make the endeavour more financially accessible, an enormous value-add came from the opportunity to engage with Dr. McGinty herself and with the board of luminary female leaders that she has engaged as advisors for the scholarship recipients. The AMU in GUH, with its culture of innovation and appetite for improvement, served as the optimal environment for her to apply her MBA learnings. The experience of working clinically throughout the COVID pandemic in a department adapting to the evolving healthcare system needs, while actively honing her leadership skills, was formative for Odharna, affirming her desire to pursue healthcare management roles. She is currently pursuing her dual interests of clinical medicine and healthcare leadership, as a Year 1 Specialist Registrar (SpR) in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and as Lead NCHD in GUH. As Lead NCHD, she has the opportunity to engage with NCHDs to identify issues affecting them, utilising her MBA learnings to develop practical solutions, and relaying these to the Medical Directorate and the NDTP Team. She is passionate about NCHD Well-Being, and was part of the trio responsible for GUH’s Inaugural Summer Ball in 2022. She is an accomplished pianist, with four High Achiever Awards from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and medals from Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan agus Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. She is a native Irish speaker, agus déanann sí gach iarracht Gaeilge a labhairt san ospidéal. She loves meeting people – both old and new – and she is locally renowned for her love of coffee and brunch.

Education & Experience 

Ms. Ailín Rogers is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at Mater Private Network, Dublin.

Ms. Rogers graduated from UCD with honours (MB BCh BAO, 2007) and completed her surgical memberships (MRCS) before pursuing a PhD with UCD and Yale University, which she was awarded for her work on gastrointestinal physiology in 2013. With RCSI, she then completed higher surgical training in general and colorectal surgery with a strong focus on colorectal cancer, achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (FRCSI, 2019). She completed a fellowship in robotic surgery and multivisceral resection of advanced colorectal cancer (Royal Marsden Hospital, London, 2020-21).

She returned to Ireland in 2021 to reunite with her husband and young family and take up a consultant appointment in Our Lady’s Hospital Navan and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she is the Clinical Lead for Surgical Oncology and Assistant Clinical Professor with University College Dublin. In November 2023 she joined the team in the Mater Private Network Dublin. 

Special Interests 

Her specialist areas of interest include colorectal cancer, especially in younger patients, in locally advanced and metastatic cases, and in those requiring multivisceral or extended resection. She is fellowship trained in advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgery, for benign and malignant lower gastrointestinal problems, minimally invasive surgery, proctology including treatment of anal fissures and fistula, and diagnosis and treatment of rectal bleeding. Her skillset also includes diverticular disease management, colonosopy/endoscopy and hernia repair surgery as well as other general surgical procedures.

Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 

Ms. Rogers has a strong research pedigree with postgraduate qualifications in statistics, leadership and healthcare economics, over 50 peer-reviewed publications,  and two book chapters. She has presented nationally and internationally on more than 60 occasions, and has been awarded over €260,000 in grant and prize funding. She advocates for her peers as the past-president of the Irish surgical training group and has a keen interest in mentorship and career guidance for aspiring surgeons. She is a past-secretary of the Irish Association of Coloproctology and the Republic of Ireland representative for the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.

Professor Keelin O’Donoghue is a medical graduate of University College Dublin and PhD

Scholar of Imperial College London. She is an RCOG-trained Subspecialist in Maternal and Fetal

Medicine, a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists and a Fellow of the

Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Keelin has been Consultant Obstetrician/Senior Lecturer

at CUMH and University College Cork since 2007 and was awarded promotion to Professor in

UCC in 2020.

Keelin was national specialty-training director for the RCPI’s higher specialist training scheme in

Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 2020-2025 and was appointed to RCPI Council in 2025. She

has led implementation for the HSE’s National Standards for Bereavement Care following

pregnancy loss and perinatal death since 2017. She is now (2021-) Clinical Lead for Guideline

Development in Maternity & Gynaecology at the HSE’s National Women and Infants Health

Programme.

At UCC, Keelin is lead for Obstetric Research in the INFANT Research Centre. She leads the

award-winning Pregnancy Loss Research Group, combining supervising a large group of clinical,

researchers, students and advocates with collaborative clinical research. Funding includes awards

from Philanthropy, Research Ireland, the Irish Research Council and the Health Research Board.

Keelin has authored/co-authored a large, and diverse, range of outputs adding to the knowledge

base in pregnancy loss, perinatal death, termination of pregnancy, fetal medicine and multiple

pregnancy. These include peer-reviewed journal articles with a significant research impact,

oral/poster presentations, research reports, invited commentaries, newspaper/magazine articles,

as well as additional publications with clinical impact in the specialty, such as National Reports

and National Practice Standards and National Clinical Practice Guidelines for Obstetrics and

Gynaecology.

Dr Sinéad Lydon is a behavioural psychologist and Associate Professor in the Department of General Practice at University of Galway. Sinéad holds a PhD in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin. Sinéad is currently leading a number of research projects that aim to: understand and improve doctors’ wellbeing and working lives; improve the quality and safety of care across the healthcare system, and; engage patients in quality and safety improvement. Sinéad is the Principal Investigator for the four-year Medicine and Motherhood (MAM) study. This project, funded by the MPS Foundation, will deliver recommendations for training schemes and a healthcare system that supports women doctors to have the family they desire while continuing to deliver high-quality healthcare. Sinéad currently works part-time and is the mother of two young boys.

Dr. Roberts will be presenting research from her UCD study exploring navigating parenthood during medical training.

“I graduated from DIT in 2004 with a degree in Biomedical Science and worked in Microbiology at St. Vincent’s University Hospital for three years. I later studied medicine at Queen’s University Belfast and graduated in 2012, completing Foundation Training in the UK. I moved back to Ireland in 2014.I finished the Histopathology Training scheme in 2025 and am currently completing an Aspire Fellowship in Autopsy Pathology at St. Vincent’s Hospital. I am a huge advocate of flexible training and worked part time for seven years after my daughter was born. I am a solo parent by choice and believe that believe that medical training should not have to be undertaken at the expense of family life.”

Nives has over 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector and is a Qualified

Financial Advisor. Since joining IMO Financial Services in 2014, she and her team have been

supporting doctors in managing their finances effectively throughout their careers.

She has a particular passion for raising awareness among women about the importance of

financial planning.

Born in Croatia, raised in Germany, and living in Ireland for the past 30 years, Nives enjoys

travelling and discovering new places whenever her annual leave allows.

Jen Keane is a graduate of NUI Maynooth and The Open University, and has been working in technology for almost 20 years. Gender equality has always been a strong personal interest, especially as she's progressed through her own career in technology. She has driven programs such as GirlSmarts4Tech (SAP Ireland) and outreach programs with Ballycullen Family Resource Centre (PTC Ireland) to encourage young girls to remain in STEM subjects, developing resources for teachers and students, writing grant applications, and running events to show kids that STEM can be inclusive and fun.

Jen is the founder of PayGap.ie, an award-winning central portal for Irish gender pay gap reports. PayGap.ie aims to make gender pay gap data as accessible and understandable as possible, and she hopes to use this gathered data to drive positive social change.

Dr. Brennan is a dedicated Consultant Occupational Health Physician at Beaumont Hospital with over 20 years of experience in the field. A medical graduate of

University College Dublin (1999), she completed her specialist vocational training in general practice in 2003. With a special interest in addiction medicine, she worked in

the HSE Addiction Service before transitioning to full-time occupational health in 2007.

Dr. Brennan became a Member of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine in 2011 and has worked with diverse industries, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, medical devices, confectionery, and healthcare. Her expertise includes workplace drug and alcohol rehabilitation and work-related psychological health.

With a passion for holistic health, Dr. Brennan is a trained Breathwork Teacher since 2024 helping individuals harness breath for mental health resilience and self-regulation. She's also training as a Celtic Wisdom Facilitator with Mari Kennedy, weaving ancient cyclical wisdom with modern wellbeing practices. She enjoys Yoga and sea swimming.

Dr Aoife Nic Shamhráin is a General Practitioner, women’s health specialist, and flautist with the Irish Doctors Orchestra (IDO).

Founded in 2020, the Irish Doctors Orchestra is an all-island ensemble of doctors and medical students from across specialties, brought together by a shared love of music. The orchestra was created to provide a creative outlet for doctors while raising funds for health-related charities. Since its foundation, the IDO has performed major symphonic works in leading venues across Ireland, collaborating with professional soloists and choirs, and supporting a wide range of medical, mental health, and community causes.

Beyond performance, the orchestra plays a meaningful role in promoting wellbeing, connection, and balance within the medical profession, demonstrating the value of creativity and community in sustaining doctors throughout their careers.

Aoife is a 2014 graduate of UCD Medicine and completed specialist GP training through Trinity College Dublin. She is co-founder of The Rose Clinic Bray, a women’s health clinic providing evidence-based care, and is recognised by the British Menopause Society as Ireland’s 8th BMS Menopause Specialist and a BMS Menopause Trainer. She also serves on the Board of the Menopause Society of Ireland and is a Clinical Lecturer/Assistant Professor for the ICGP.

Dr. Marion Broderick will deliver the Dr. Sarah FItzgibbon Lecture.

“I was born in Galway in 1951 and graduated from UCG in 1977.

Internship and various house jobs were in Galway, Sligo, Letterkenny and Dublin.

Initially I was interested in Obstetrics and did some extra time there which has served me well on the islands.

However, I decided to do a "self structured" G.P. Scheme with a view to staying  in rural general practice.

My husband is an islander and in 1981 we decided to give the islands a try when the job came up. We have two adult children.

I was responsible for the three Aran Islands for 22 years and later for Inishmore only for a further 20 years. 

I retired in 2023, having "aged out" of the contract.

Transport to the smaller islands for regular clinics and emergencies was usually by plane during the day, and always by lifeboat at night. 

The practice was very busy with many additional roles, such as driving the ambulance and organizing transport off the islands for patients, and often having to accompany them in serious emergencies. Seasonal mass tourism created a very heavy casualty load, mostly due to bicycle accidents.

Outside of the G.P. Practice, I was involved in the West Coast Search and Rescue Action Committee in the 80's, which

campaigned for, and eventually achieved, getting a proper search and rescue service and MediVac services with CoastGuard helicopters based on the west coast. 

I was also involved in setting up our local Nursing Home, Arus Ronain, on Inishmore .”
