Many thanks to everyone who made our #WiMINLimerick22 conference so special. The theme of the conference was “Changes” and we explored a wide range of topics including doctors’ health, interpersonal conflict, diverse careers, and challenges to accessing medical education and training.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Liz O’Riordan, breast surgeon, breast cancer advocate and author, as our keynote speaker.

Dr Gozie Offiah

Gozie is Senior Lecturer and Director of Curriculum at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

She is also the Clinical Lead for the National Intern Training programme in the Health Service Executive, the chair of the cross-cultural group of tEACH, the International Association of Communication in Healthcare and the Non- executive Director of the Medical Protection Society for Ireland – a unique blend of a clinician, educationalist and Non-Executive director.

 

Captain Dr Lisa McNamee

Captain Dr. Lisa McNamee is currently serving as a medical officer in the Irish Defence Forces. She is due to be the first graduate from the dual specialty Military Medicine and General Practice Training scheme. She is an ex-broadcast film and theatre producer, and has a special interest in Aerospace Medicine.

She is joint space medicine lead for the European Society of Extreme Environments Medicine. She writes articles for several publications and is currently working on her first book.

 

Dr Lorna Holcroft

Currently a 2nd year BST in paediatrics, doing her neonatology rotation in The National Maternity Hospital in Dublin.

Lorna studied medicine as a postgraduate  in Queen's University Belfast ,and completed the Foundation Program in hospitals in Northern Ireland, before returning to Ireland to enrol in the paediatrics basic specialist training program with the Royal College of Physicians. 

She tries to get out in nature and away from fluorescent lights every day and enjoys reading, current affairs and crafty stuff.

 

Dr Syeda Amna Azim

Dr Syeda Amna Azim is dual qualified in dentistry and medicine, the first female Pakistani to achieve both qualifications. She is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, having completed her membership MFDS/MJDS exam in dentistry.

In 2016, she moved to Ireland primarily for the completion of her postgraduate and fellowship FFD, RCSI exams, but also to gain clinical experience in OMFS. She worked as a Registrar within the OMFS speciality and was also appointed as the NCHD Lead for Surgical Specialities during her tenure.

She is an active member of the Irish Medical Organisation, representing three sub-groups - NCHD Women in Medicine Working Group 21/22, Midwest Intern representative 2021/22 and IMO International Doctor’s Group.

Dorcas Crawford

Dorcas is a former lawyer, who retired from the law in 2019 to pursue her passion for helping people to find solutions for conflict through training, facilitation and mediation.

Dorcas is well known as a business leader in NI, particularly for her innovative Twitter networking initiative #Belfasthour.

Dorcas is a committed supporter of Bowel Cancer UK and is 2021-22 President of Lean In Ireland.

 

Nives Paic

Nives, a Qualified Financial Adviser, has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services sector. She joined IMO Financial Services in 2014 where she and her team assist doctors to effectively manage their finances. Nives is also a board member with Anew, a charity that provide essential services to pregnant women experiencing homelessness.

 

Dr Maimoona Azhar

Dr Maimoona Azhar is Founder and CEO of Telegenz, an Irish start-up that has developed a SaaS cloud-based training platform, for training of healthcare providers in remote patient assessment skills.

Telegenz has been recognised as one of the best new start-up ideas in Ireland and is an Enterprise Ireland (EI) High Potential Start-up (HPSU) client and a recipient of EI Competitive Start Fund.

 

Ao Blue Sasame

Ao Sasame is a UCD medical student and lead of AccessMed Ireland.  She started AccessMed Ireland in March 2021 with her housemates to make entry into Medicine more accessible for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. They have been able to create a scholarship program, run events for over 4000 aspiring doctors & more. She won a scholarship for the Healthcare Leadership Academy to become a scholar and interns for Solvemed, a medtech focused on using AI for neurology diagnostics.

 

Dr Sarah Fitzgibbon

Dr Sarah Fitzgibbon is a GP from Cork. In 2014, at the age of 37, she was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. She began to write a blog, “Adventures of a Sick Doctor” and she now writes regularly for the Medical Independent.

In December 2017, she set up the Women in Medicine in Ireland Network (WiMIN) and organised its first conference in Dublin in September 2018.

She is a member of the Deep End Ireland group, which advocates for improved primary care services for people living in areas of deprivation.

She currently works for the National Screening Service, when she is not frantically organising WiMIN conferences…
